I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I take you.
To honor and obey.
Till death do us part.
This is my solemn vow.

I am caught in the madness of a deep obsession. Stolen away to become his perfect and dutiful wife.
Trapped in a twisted and dark courtship. Forced and trained in the wifely duties of an obedient bride.
I am his.
Captive ever after…

***Captive Vow is a dark romantic thriller. If you don’t like a sprinkle of shock, a dash of taboo, and a heavy dose of sex, then don’t take a sip of my cocktail.

It’s funny what some people consider the Dark genre. There are books that are considered to be in the Dark genre that don’t really contain certain the key elements to be truly Dark. Make no mistake about it; Captive Vow has these elements and so much more. As a fan of this genre it takes a lot to surprise or shock me. Let me just say……it Blew. My. Mind! Be prepared to just go along for the ride, with some really twisted turns, and by the time it’s over you’ll be letting out a sigh of relief. As always, I won’t include any spoilers, because no one likes them. That being said, I regrettably can’t get into too much detail in this review.

Demi Wayne is 24-year-old, working as a waitress at Blossom’s Diner. Besides her friend, Maria, a fellow waitress, she doesn’t have anyone in her life. She didn’t know her father and her mother has been in prison for a horrible crime she committed, sentenced to death, for the last 6 years. Demi and Maria take turns waiting on a sweet, older customer, Mrs. Vivian (Viv, as she insists they call her) Montgomery, 2 days a week. Poor Viv has Parkinson’s and it makes it difficult for her to eat, so Demi sits with her and feeds her. On what is possibly one of her worst days of her life, Demi waits on Viv and they discuss her lack of friends, love life, and family.  She also discovers Viv has a son, named Pope. It turns out he’s recently been released from prison, for a crime Viv insists he didn’t commit.

“You should meet my son. He’s a good one. I raised him well.” She smiled wide, intensifying the wrinkles at the corners of her eyes as her entire face seemed to light up. “But I could be biased since I am his momma.”

After reassuring her that she won’t judge Pope for being in prison, Demi tells her to bring him in for some pie.

“I can’t wait for you two to meet. I promise you will see what a wonderful boy he is. He may be a bit of a momma’s boy, but he is such a good, good boy.”

It seems Vivian really wants Demi to meet Pope.

After the day Demi’s had she goes home and takes some sleeping pills to relax. Later that evening she receives an unexpected visit from Viv. After a while, she asks her to leave, since she’s feeling out of it and needs to sleep. When Demi wakes up, she’s tied and bound in what seems to be a dark box. In a moving truck. Seems someone’s kidnapped her. Could it be that Pope did it?  She realizes Viv is there too and scared, warning her to be quiet so Pope doesn’t hear her. Poor Viv! So frail and scared of Pope.

“A girl always dreams of being swept off her feet. I just didn’t picture being swept off my feet into a moving crate, drugged, bound and gagged. Sorta adds an entire new and twisted element to the dream, don’t you think?”

We find out things aren’t as they seem. This is where the jaw-dropping moments start occurring. There were so many of them, really shocking and disturbing things, that had me furiously turning the pages.  I didn’t stop until I got to the end. And I wanted to cry at the end, it was so worth all the gut wrenching moments!
