*This is book 4 in the IF I Break Series. It is strongly suggested to start at book 1 which is currently free.
When you’re heartbroken, it lies beneath everything that you do. It’s in all of who you are. Foreshadows who you’ll be.
It hides underneath your smile, rests between your laugh, revels in your tears and taunts your every thought. You wish it away but are too terrified to let it go….
When Cal first disappeared I swore my heart had broken, and before all of this is over I swear it will shatter into pieces.
I picked up If I Break back when it first came out back in 2014. I had no idea what to expect. To say it completely blew me away would be an understatement. It was different from anything else I had read up to that point, and I loved every moment of it. It was the first review I ever wrote on Amazon because the story moved me so much. SO all this to say that I have been completely invested in these characters over these last few years. I have read every single book that has come out, and I have been taken on quite a journey with each and every one. What started out as just Cal and Lauren’s book became so much more. Shattered Pieces builds on the amazing story that has kept me enthralled with this couple and the whirlwind that surrounds them.
Let me start by saying, you absolutely must start at the beginning if you plan on reading this one. There are so many twists and turns…you never know where you are going to end up. This one picks up at the end of the third book, right before the wedding. A whole bunch more stuff went down that we never “saw” and this book fills in those missing pieces.
I definitely don’t want to give away any spoilers, so I am going to avoid the specific story aspects. If you love the dynamic between Lauren and her starring hero (whomever that might be at the time) you won’t be disappointed. Their love is alive and well. It truly is a test of their relationship that they continue to push through all the obstacles in their way. Lauren is amazing in her ability to handle the situations she has been put in, and I admire her strength. A lesser woman would have walked away long ago.
There were several new revelations in this one, and as always, I was left to guess and wonder what would happen next. The beginning was a little slow for me, just because there was a lot of back and forth, and I felt like we were back to square one in a lot of ways. And then, like it always does, the story sucked me in. These characters are so dynamic and real. The author does an amazing job of making them, and their actions, relatable.
So many intriguing moments, powerful emotions, and surprises along the way. This continues to be one of my favorite series and I can’t wait for the next installment.
