I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Cade Jenkins is a study in loss. At twenty-five he lost his parents, his dreams, and his career on the pro surfing circuit. He gained guardianship of his two younger brothers, responsibility for an entire ranch, and a life without love.
Nina Cline is on the mend. Her cheating fiance is in the rear view, and she's concentrating on her job as an organic certification consultant. Now that she's gained her independence, Nina will never make the mistake of giving it away again. Especially to some anonymous hookup she meets at a beachside bar...no matter how good he looks in the water. Then she meets her newest Big Sur client and realizes that the beach bum that curled her toes is her new boss—and he thinks “organic” is a dirty word.
As tensions, tempers, and chemistry reach a boiling point at the ranch, these two heartbroken souls will need to decide if they’re willing to take a chance again, or let the love of a lifetime slip away with the tide.
I went into this book completely blind. The cover and the title intrigued me since every girl should have a cowboy once in a while. I am very happy I decided to take a chance on this book.
Cade Jenkins is a hot, surly cowboy with the weight of the world on his shoulders.
His whole life changed when he went from having a professional surfing career, without a care in the world, to being the head of his family when his parents died.
Thereby leaving him with the responsibility of their multimillion-dollar ranch and two younger brothers.
Nina Cline is the organics consultant that has been hired by Ty, Cade’s younger brother, to help them decide if they should take Big-Sur Ranch organic. She is blonde, beautiful and represents everything Cade despises, which is any kind of change to his parents’ ranch.
This book was so surprising. I had no idea what I got when this book dropped on my kindle. It was a little slow in the beginning, so I actually went back and started it over; so I could give another try. I’m very glad I decided to give it another chance. I would have missed out on a story that teaches the reader some valuable lessons about family, loss and how to truly move forward from the past that holds you back.
This is the first book in Selena Laurence’s California Cowboys Series, and with the set up for what I hope is the next book in the series, about Vaughn and T.J, I can’t wait to see where this family saga goes. Which is why I give this book 4 stars.
