I was a pawn.
Weak and someone easily manipulated.
To be played with as he saw fit.
YOU shone light in my now dark world.
It was YOU who made me smile.
For the first time in this game, I had hope.
All because of YOU.
The more powerful pieces on the board, however, were a threat to YOU and me.
They would win at any cost.
Two kings ruling with an iron fist.
Allies or opponents, it was hard to tell.
YOU promised to save me.
Told me we would win.
But then I was on the wrong side of the board.
This isn't YOU, baby.
And I don't know what to do.
The game is almost over and I'm counting on YOU.
This Isn’t You, Baby is a dark romance. Strong sexual themes, excessive drug use, and violence, which could trigger emotional distress, are found in this story. If you are sensitive to dark themes, then this story is not for YOU.
This story will make YOU smile.
This story will make YOU angry.
This story will make YOU crazy.
I hope YOU love it, baby.
Is it possible for a series to get better and better, with each new book? Yes, it is!!! This newest installment of K. Webster’s War & Peace Series is The. Best. So. Far! Ohhh…I can’t get ahead of myself. You must read the first 3 books in the series, as they aren’t standalones and when I say “You must”, you really do because you’ll hate yourself if you don’t!
This Isn’t You, Baby picks up with Brie’s story. Its 3 years after the tragic death of her mother, and her father Gabe running away. Gabriella (Brie, as she likes to be called) was adopted by Heath and Izzie Berkley. The well to-do couple have a daughter, Vienna (Vee), her age and a red-headed beauty. Not what Heath’s business partner wants as a wife for one of his 3 sons; he wants a daughter-in-law who looks more Columbian, to blend in their family. And Heath is eager to join his family, and business, to Camilo Rojas’ drug cartel business. So Heath decides that Brie will become a Rojas, on her 18th birthday, marrying the son Camilo chooses for her. While the youngest Rojas, Oscar, is a friend of Vee and Brie’s, it’s the middle son, Duvan that is chosen as the groom. The eldest, Esteban, isn’t happy with being passed over since the brothers are at constant war, and this is just another point of contention between them. Ren, Baylee and Warren’s son are in the picture, having promised his dad (and Gabe) that he’d keep an eye on Brie. The young couple fall in love, calling themselves Romeo and Juliet.
As we’ve come to expect in this series, the couple is torn apart, with lots of pain, hurt and anguish thrown in. Delicious pain and anguish! Moving on……all the way to Columbia. Duvan and Brie settle into married life and running the family empire. But, as any good story by K. Webster, no one said anything about happily ever after. At this point in the story, I was reading non-stop. This is one wild ride! Pins and needles, people!
“I’m going to love you until your heart stops bleeding from all the deep lacerations you’ve endured, that life has so cruelly inflicted” “And what if it never stops?” “Then I’ll simply keep loving you until mine stops beating in my chest”
How much can such a young girl endure? The very young women in this series are faced with demons, some real-life ones, and I root for them to make it to the other side. I loved Baylee and even the crazy, at times unlovable, Hannah. But, I think that Brie is my favorite. Yeah, pretty sure! Unless someone else comes along……you never know!
“In this family, we do some crazy thing for love. In this family, we don’t let love go”
