Alexander Bryant has lived his entire life making everyone else happy. After meeting Lincoln, will he have the courage to finally do what makes him happy?
Alexander – I like to imagine myself a rebel – an ass-kicker that takes what he wants regardless of what others think. I make my own path and flip off the people who don’t agree. I laugh in the face of conflict. Nobody tells me what to do.
In reality, everything about me is a lie – past, present, and future. The Bryant name requires certain things and all my decisions are based on those requirements. I like football, but the family name demands I love it. I want to be an artist, but the family name demands I be a lawyer. The family demands I fall in love with a nice girl, but I’m falling for, well, the opposite of nice AND girl. I’m a coward and a liar.
Lincoln – I like to imagine myself a loner – a cold heartless bastard that takes what he wants. I lived the biggest part of my life with parents that were ashamed of me for more reasons that one could begin to count, so I trust no one.
I have a low tolerance for bullshit and hate liars.
So why did I go and fall in love with the biggest liar of them all?

As most of you know, I’m a huge fan of M/M and sports romances, so when I saw this, I was as giddy as a school girl. And when I found out it was set in a BDSM setting, it was a match made in heaven. However, my excitement didn’t last very long.
This is the story of Alexander, star Quarterback, and Lincoln, the hippest BDSM club owner, who happened to be gay. Alexander visits Lincoln’s club with a few of his buddies and immediately catches Lincoln’s attention and when he reacts in an unexpected manner to Lincoln’s pain and plesure, things change.
This is a classic gay for you story. Alexander is not gay (something he states clearly a few times), but there is something about Lincoln that attracts him, and when Lincoln gives him the chance to get out of his head and the life is family had laid out for him, he takes it.
I didn’t really connect with this story before 25%, but somehow it still intrigued me. The first interaction between these two male characters felt strange at first, mostly from Alexander’s point of view. He doesn’t understand the attraction he feels toward Lincoln on a basic level, which I can understand since he considers himself straight. However, that changes quickly and they fall into a relationship, but the connection stops there. I didn’t really feel the story between them, and the BDSM aspect gave me a “50 Shades of Grey” feeling. It felt mostly like it was used to give the plot a twist but it didn’t feel like an organic part of the storyline.
Yet, the basic storyline of two main characters falling in love, while trying to keep it a secret from the families really spoke to me, which is why this book still gets a 3.5 rating.
