Seduce the teacher.
Meet the cousin.
Make a deal.
Steal the painting.
Andrea Anderson has no clue of the thoughts churning around in the dark and dangerous ex-con’s head as he enters her classroom. In fact, she’s momentarily lost for words. Not in her entire teaching career has she had a student who looked quite like Stu Cross.
A widow at just twenty-eight, love is something Andie hasn’t considered a part of her life for a very long time. However, when lingering touches turn to whispered words and hot, searching stares, she begins to wonder if maybe she should take a leap of faith.
But Stu is in her class for a reason, and it has nothing to do with love. He’s there to burrow his way into her life and repay a debt, otherwise his family will suffer. Andie is the first person to show him true kindness since he left prison, and though he doesn’t want to mislead her, he doesn’t have another choice.
Before long, Stu can’t tell whether or not he’s acting anymore, and his feelings for Andie could throw all of his carefully crafted plans into complete and utter disarray.
**Can be read as a stand alone.
LH Cosway has written another sexy and intriguing story. This series is one of my all-time favorites, and I can’t believe we are down to one book left. I will be so sad to say goodbye to this colorful cast of characters and unique stories.
“At just twenty-eight, I was in debt to the tune of almost fifty grand and a widow.”
Andrea Anderson has been broken. Married and widowed at such a young age has had its effects. Now, she is all about helping others as an adult educator. She is still clinging to her past love, and trying to keep her head above water, when in walks Stu Cross and changes everything.
Stu Cross has had a rough life. He and his brothers were left to fend for themselves at a young age. Opportunities were rare, and he ended up in prison for two years because of the path he was on. Now, he is determined to change and protect his family at all costs. I fell in love with his vulnerability and quiet strength.
“Being with Stu was not only bad for my heart, it was bad for my career. I could lose my job if anybody ever found out.”
Stu and Andrea’s chemistry is immediately evident. Andrea is wary because of Stu’s record, and the fact that she is his teacher. She’s not sure yet if she can trust him, and because this is told entirely from her POV, we as the reader aren’t aware if Stu’s intentions can be trusted either. Beyond their reaction to one another, I loved how they challenged each other. Andrea pushes Stu to realize his potential, and he pushes her to move beyond the past. I enjoyed the slow burn of anticipation between these two as they worked through their feelings.
There is also a suspense component to the book as well. There were a few twists that I did not see coming. The ending has a particular twist that left me with a smile. Everything comes together quite nicely, adding another dimension to the story.
Overall, this was another outstanding installment in the Hearts series. The writing, as always, was flawless. The characters were relatable and empathetic. The expectation of their coming together had me rapidly turning pages. Filled with a truly epic romance between two people who bring out the best in one another, and engaging secondary characters, I think this just might be my favorite in the series…until the next one.
