I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I’m just a normal girl.
Or so you would think.
I’ve never thought of myself as anything different.
Until I met him.
He doesn’t think I’m normal.
He thinks I’m special.
Special enough to be in his life.
Special enough to enter his world.
Special enough for his bed.
Rafael Lencioni. Dangerous. Beautiful. Terrifying.
My story is the one that’s never told.
I’m not the daughter.
I’m not the wife.
I’m not the forbidden lover.
I’m not a sister or a mother.
I’m not who you think I am.
So for me to fit into their world, I have to do something I never wanted in my life.
Something I would have frowned upon until I met him.
I have to change who I am.
I have to shut down my heart.
I have to accept my place.
My body belongs to him.
My heart isn’t permitted to.
Those are his rules.
But rules were made to be broken…right?
Bella Jewel books are a treat for me. There is something about her stories that draws me in. This book, in particular, sucked me in from page one. I loved the premise of a mafia mistress; love triangles are a favorite of mine. The prologue setup the rest of the story perfectly, and the ending left me dying for the next book.
“Rafael does things to me, things that I haven’t felt in my entire life, but being with him is also a risk.”
Julietta is a fun, outspoken, young nurse whose whole life changes when she goes out clubbing one night with a friend. There she meets Rafael, which starts her down a path that she never saw coming.
“No woman in my lifetime has made me want the way I wanted her.”
Rafael is the leader of the mafia. He is married, but is expected to keep a mistress as well. Once he lays eyes on Julietta, he believes he’s found the woman for the job.
“I’m playing with fire, I’m going to get burned, but damned if I can stop. I don’t even want to.”
The relationship between Rafael and Julietta intrigued me. I was fascinated by the dynamics of what it means to have an open relationship where all parties are aware of each other. What these two have together is more than just about sex. I loved how Julietta challenged Rafael; she’s no pushover. As their relationship develops, a serious threat to Rafael and Julietta’s lives arises. Things are not as they seem, and secrets have a way of coming to light.
This book had angst, suspense, drama, and was full of twists. From cover to cover, I couldn’t read fast enough to know what was going on. I’m so glad the next book is coming soon, because that cliffhanger was just cruel. I can’t wait to see how everything will come together in the end.
