Morrison “Shadow” Griggs, VP of the Cerberus MC, is a force to be reckoned with. Women fall at his feet, willing to do almost anything for a night with him.

Misty Bowen is the exception. She’s young and impressionable, but with her religious upbringing, she’s able to resist Shadow’s advances… for a while at least.

Never one to look back on past conquests, Shadow is surprised that he’s intrigued by Misty, which only grows more when she seems to be done with him without a word.

Being ghosted by a twenty-one-year-old is not the norm where he’s concerned, and the rejection doesn’t sit right with him.

Life goes on, however, until Misty shows up on the doorstep of the Cerberus MC clubhouse with a surprise that rocks his entire world off of its axis.

With only the clothes on her back and the consequences of her lies and deceit, Misty needs help now more than she ever has. Alone in the world and desperate for help, she turns to the one man she thought she’d never see again.

Shadow would never turn his back on a woman in need, but his inability to forgive has always been his main character flaw. Unintended circumstances have cast Misty into his life, but will he have the ability to keep his distance when her situation necessitates a closeness he’s never dreamed of having with a woman?

I’m a big fan of Marie James and this series. After I’ve read each one I’ve thought, OK this is my favorite, and with Shadow I felt the same thing. This book is definitely an angsty and emotional story that tore at my heart over and over again.

Shadow is a love’em and leave’em player used to having his pick of willing females wherever his work takes him. Misty is a young college student with very strict religious parents, but her willpower is no match for her strong attraction to Shadow.

After trying to navigate one difficult heartbreaking life choice after another, Misty finds herself out of options and seeking out assistance from Shadow and the Cerberus MC club.

My emotions were all over the place with this book. I felt so bad, my heart broke for Misty who found herself so young and so alone with the weight of life altering decisions. I was so angry at Shadow, but he was open about who and what kind of man he was. And his change was so gradual and organic that I think it even surprised him.

“I pictured myself walking out of that front door. I imagined what walking away from you would be like.” I stroke her cheek with my thumb, hating the way her lip is quivering. “I couldn’t walk away even if it was the best thing for us. I don’t want to walk away from you, Misty. I can’t.”

Marie James has become a favorite one-click author for me.
