Delaney Hart has come a long way from her wild youth, dating tattooed bikers at her father’s bar, The Bad Seed. But when his death pulls her back to Wildwood, California, she must stay to renovate the dive he left her. And also face the lies and secrets that sent her running ten years before.
When Wildwood’s chief building inspector, Ethan Hayes, shows up on the property, Delaney doesn’t recognize him. The last thing he wants to do is save the bar where his cousin died in a brawl. But the good boy from her past is all too willing to remind her of the bad girl she used to be. And one night of passion leaves them both in a compromising position.
The last place Ethan should be is in Delaney’s bed. Guilt, family pressure, and plans for a brewpub of his own make shutting down The Bad Seed his top priority…until his feelings for Delaney interfere. Because her future depends on the success of the bar’s renovation and his dreams are rooted in its failure, their forbidden romance may be destined for heartbreak
We all know that feeling of reconnecting with a friend you haven’t talked to in years; trepidation, worry, and yet a tingle of excitement. Well, I have the same feeling, when I pick up a book from an author whose books I have read in the past. I read Skye Jordan’s “Renegade Series” back in 2014 and loved them.
So when I saw she released a new series, I was a little scared. I always worry that the new series won’t live up to the older ones and will leave me disappointed. Well shame on me for questioning this author.
Forbidden Fling is a modern version of Romeo and Juliet. Ethan is our hero, and what a man. He is everything any woman would want with the strong morals, family first take on life, and an incredibly hard worker. But he also has a softer side since the carries around a few burdens of guilt that he shouldn’t. He has had a crush on Delaney Hart since his adolescence, but she is a Hart. However, that won’t stop him from taking the chance to be with her when she returns to Wildwood.
Delaney Hart is everything a woman should be. She is strong-willed, won’t get bullied by anyone, and always puts family first. She was forced to be the head of her family after her mother left and her father started drinking instead of taking care of their bar and his three daughters. She hasn’t had it easy and as a teenager, she began to do everything she could to piss off her father, which included bikers. One night, things get out of hand and Delaney leaves everything in Wildwood behind, including her sisters.
This is so much more than a romance in my world. It is a story about getting out from underneath your family’s hold, and the toxic ties they wrap you in. It is about the solidarity and the connection these family bonds can entail and that sometimes family isn’t the members you are born with, but the ones you choose.
This is a totally different experience from Skye Jordan’s “Renegade Series” with the small town feel, but at the same time, she delivers what I expected; a funny, fresh story with great characters and a solid storyline. I can’t wait to read book two in this series. It is a solid 4 star read from me.
